Raymond Laperrière 

Presentation   

  • Born in Trois-Rivières in 1954, Raymond Laperrière will follow his family to Sherbrooke in 1968
  • Incomplete studies of graphic art at Sherbrooke College between 1973 to 1975
  • Turning his back on the art world, Mr. Laperrière will rather embrace music for many years to come; a decision that will take him to Quebec city to perform with a local rock band, in 1979
  • Off to Montréal in 1983 where he will try going back to school to get his collegial degree in “fashion merchandising”, at LaSalle College
  • The multinational PolyGram records of Canada hires Mr. Laperrière in 1990 as a merchandising representative; unfortunately, a major company reorganisation will cot him his job in July of 1993
  • In 1995, HMV Canada commands three small murals for stores locations in Côte-Vertu (Montréal),  Trois-Rivières and Sherbrooke
  • From 1996 until 1997, fundraiser for the Orford Art Center Festival
  • In May of 1998, Côte-Vertu Shopping Mall commands a 17’x36’ mural for their store
  • 2001, first attempt at oil painting
  • In the Spring of 2002, Laperrière joins a local collective hired to paint a series of amazing historical murals based on the “trompe-l’oeil” technique, in downtown Sherbrooke
  • In October of 2003, after completing the third mural, he will leave the collective to undergo his own path, painting landscape inspired bye the beautiful scenes of the Eastern Townships
  • In April of 2004, the painter will bring his first six paintings to the Art-Inter gallery; those being Mr. Laperrière’s very first steps into the official art circuit
  • A solo presentation of seventeen canvas at the chic Antiquarius Café in downtown Sherbrooke, turned out to be the very first exhibit by Mr. Laperrière
  • Since February of 2007, the Art-Azo Gallery as well as the Art-Inter Gallery, both in Sherbrooke, present some of Mr. Laperrière’s work
