Raymond Laperrière

Influences

  • Self taught artist, Mr. Laperrière’s love for landscape painting started with the work of some of the great French impressionists (Corot, Rousseau, Millet, Monet) and also, strangely enough, the still life of the Dutch School (Vermeer, Rembrandt).

  • But love for the Impressionists ended up on the back scene after falling for the technique of such landscape masters as Krieghoff, Edson and Turner.  Far from copying those artists, Laperrière will rather try to combine their technique along with the treatment of light inspired by the sub-mention Dutch School.

  • Emotion and realism are the keywords in the process of finding the right subject to paint; the scene must always combine some essential elements such as: strong composition, originality, an interesting palette and, the most essential of all, an amazing, dazzling treatment of the surrounding light in order to gather all the components needed to generate and overwhelming rush of emotion amongst the public.

  • In order to do so, the artist will explore many of the remote spots found in the Eastern Townships countryside, where he will locate the most interesting scenes and the most enchanting light surrounding possible; everything is photographed and then, painted on canvas.
